Professional Health Studies for Medical Assisting (PHSMA)

Award: Associate in Applied Science Degree
 

This option allows expansion of graduates’ roles in medical assisting to include supervisory, leadership, and managerial roles and positions. It provides the opportunity and a pathway for lifelong learning as well as to pursue advanced degrees and grow professionally in a variety of healthcare careers.

All required classes for the PHSMA degree must have a grade of C or better to graduate from the program.

 

Graduation Requirements
Completed Medical Assisting Certificate (MDACE): 76.0 - 77.0
Additional option courses: 11.0
Additional General Education credits*: 4.5
Total credit hours required: 91.5 - 92.5

*Additional MCC General Education competency requirements have been met in the Medical Assisting certificate program. Upon completion, students will have met all MCC General Education requirements.

Additional Requirements for Medical Assisting Track


Students who successfully complete the Medical Assisting certificate can earn the Professional Health Studies degree by completing the following option courses and an additional 4.5 credit hours of general education requirements. Note that not all courses in the degree may transfer.
